Meet our Staff

Rabbi Gila Caine

Born and raised in Jerusalem Rabbi Caine graduated the Hebrew University with an M.A in Contemporary Judaism and received her rabbinic ordination at the HUC-JIR’s Israeli program in 2011. Her rabbinic thesis explored liturgical, spiritual, and ceremonial aspects of birth in Jewish tradition and contemporary practice. Stemming from that, as well as her years as volunteer at the Rape crisis center, Rabbi Caine is one of the founders of the Israeli rabbinic women’s group B'not Dinah” – creating a female and feminist rabbinic tradition of healing after Sexual trauma.

She now serves as rabbi at Temple Beth Ora congregation in Edmonton, where is lives with her husband and children.

Yaara Shabtai 

Yaara was born and raised in Israel. In 2008, Yaara earned an Honors LL.B from Netanya, School of Law, and a Mediator Certificate from the Neve Tzedek Institute for Peaceful Conflict Resolution. In 2012 she pursued her M.A in Political Science, specializing in Democracy and Human rights, from the University of Haifa. She graduated second in her class and was listed on the  Dean's Honour roll.

In 2013, Yaara moved with her family to Edmonton and became involved in the local Jewish community. Community work has always been a major part of her life. Throughout the years, Yaara has volunteered and held various leadership positions in nonprofit organizations in Canada, Israel and in Nigeria.
